In 2010, KCFEC received a grant award of $50,000 to fund the procurement of its own ophthalmologic equipment and specialized tools from the Health Care Foundation. This critical grant enabled our organization to expand clinic services beyond the donation of use of private offices in the metropolitan area.
A grant award of $10,000 in 2009 gave KCFEC the seed capital to begin offering its services in the Kansas City area.
In 2008 Dr. Milton Grin and his clinic associates from Grin Eye Care helped to launch the dream of our founders by hosting our first free clinics at their practice. As early supporters, they helped us start The Kansas City Free Eye Clinic and nurture its growth.
Eye doctors, opticians, residents, and techs from Sabates Eye Centers provided the care to hundreds of patients in our early years at Grand Avenue Temple United Methodist Church. Every month Sabates would provide the eyeglasses and medicines to people that could previously not afford these crucial vision aids.
