About Our Eye Exams

Our eye exams are preventive in nature so they will help alert you to underlying vision problems.
They are most helpful if you have not had an eye exam in over 2 years.
We do not treat any eye conditions, eye infections, or eye trauma. These are best treated by your local eye doctor, urgent care, or emergency room.
We do not offer contact lens exams.

About Our Eyeglasses

Our eyeglasses are simple tools to get the job done – to help you see clearly.
Most glasses are single-vision or lined bifocal plastic lenses with anti-reflective coatings and we do not offer specialty, impact-resistant, tinted, lightweight, or progressive glasses.
Frames are brand-new or donated so we do not offer the selection that your local eye doctor can provide.
We do not fill outside prescriptions for glasses.

Eligibility Guidelines

Eye exams and glasses are offered to low-income and homeless individuals.

You may qualify for our services if you meet these eligibility guidelines:

Demonstrated financial need.
Resident of Missouri or Kansas.
Have not had an eye exam or glasses from any other clinic in the past year.
Have not met your lifetime cap of 4 eye exams or 4 eyeglasses at KCFEC.
100% free care is offered to homeless individuals or those living in short-term housing (support letter needed).
For others, a contribution of $30-$45 is requested to help cover the cost of your services.
Replacements for broken glasses will incur a cost of $15-$20.

To receive services, you agree to the following:

To help us tailor our services better for others and help more people, you may be asked to participate in photo/videography, patient interviews, and follow-up communication.
You will let us know if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment 24 hours in advance. 2 no-shows will be ineligible for future care.
Our clinic offers safety-net oriented services to fill gaps in care, aid others when they cannot afford eye care, and we do not fill the need to become your long-term provider of eye care. There is a lifetime cap of services for an individual at 4 eye exams and 4 pairs of eyeglasses.
